Please help Potlatch Fund Close the Gap!
Potlatch Fund wants to thank the Squaxin Island Tribe, the Squaxin community, and all of those who attended the 2019 Fundraising Gala this past Saturday, November 2, at the Squaxin Island Tribe – Little Creek Casino Resort (Kamilche, WA).
Thanks to donations from individual artists and organizations over 64 items were on display in 2019 Silent Auction. And thanks to our wonderful guests virtually all of the items had winning bids, totaling $11,688. Proceeds from the 2019 Silent Auction will help support the 2020 Native Arts Grant Cycle – continuing the spirit of reciprocity forward.
The Skookum Creek Events Center had been transformed into a beautiful ballroom and, following protocol, the Squaxin Island Drummers, Singer, and Dancers opened the dinner and program portion of the evening in style. Guests were able to witness the honoring of Antone Minthorn (2019 Spirit of Reciprocity Award), enjoy an elegant meal, and listen to the music & stories of Swil Kanim.
Guests were then given the opportunity to support Potlatch Fund and possibly win a paddle – hand carved by Joe Seymour. The goal, for the evening, was $70,000 and after the $10,000 and $5,000 level paddles had found new homes, $35,000 had already been raised. By the end of the evening, Potlatch Fund had raised just under $59,000, with donations ranging from $6 to $10,000..
Potlatch Fund is running a Close the Gap online campaign with a goal of raising $11,000 – ensuring the 2019 Fundraising Gala is a success on all levels! Please consider making a donation today with the knowledge that you are investing in tomorrow!
